This has given us many opportunities to find creative solutions and produce superlative results. We combine an emphasis on the creation of the highest-quality projects with an unwavering commitment to seeing each project through to successful completion. The projects have varied, but our commitment to success and to the environmental practices that we employ have not. Persistence, tenacity and a commitment to the environment are the hallmarks of our success. Our projects have been honored to receive numerous awards and commendations including many awards honoring their design and quality. We are most proud of the awards that have been given by the municipalities and communities in which the projects are located.

Penn’s experience and expertise encompass all phases of project development and Penn thrives on taking projects from conception to completion. At the outset of every initiative, Penn performs an internal strategic analysis to develop cogent, incisive and effective strategies for achieving targeted, meaningful results. Diligent, yet creative, implementation of those strategies paired with an unwavering focus on the key objectives have repeatedly yielded success for Penn. The company’s history of delivering first-rate projects is well-established and reflects Penn’s willingness and desire to embrace all aspects of a project. Penn strategically identifies the right opportunities, develops the strategies necessary to bring those opportunities to fruition and invests its own capital to turn those opportunities into reality. Summed in three words, the process is: Conceive. Commit. Complete.
Penn performs all aspects of project development including: site selection and procurement, contract negotiations, design, entitlements, approvals, equity investment, financing, project management, construction management and on-going operational and financial management. Having these skills and resources in house gives Penn the ability to execute large, complicated transactions and has enabled Penn to complete hundreds of millions of dollars worth of projects.
Green building and sustainable development are not new to Penn. The firm has had an environmental focus since its inception in 1985 and has been doing green building for decades – in fact, since long before the term “green building” became fashionable. Penn came very early to the concept of the holistic adoption of numerous environmental strategies in each development project. A typical Penn real estate project utilizes advanced energy saving techniques and technologies such as radiant heating and heat recovery systems; non-toxic, locally-sourced and renewable building materials; groundwater infiltration recharge systems; daylighting and other natural lighting methods; passive and natural ventilation; water saving techniques including point-of-use water heaters and xeriscaping; the adaptive re-use of sites and buildings and numerous other advanced environmental strategies. Here’s a list of some of the environmental practices that we employ.
In recent years Penn has brought its deep experience in project development to the field of renewable energy. Penn is now applying two of its core principles to advancing renewable energy projects, namely: in-house development of necessary resources; and a commitment to project transparency and advocacy. First, Penn has committed significant internal resources including technical, legal, and financial staff to focus on the delivery of high-quality renewable energy projects. Second, one of Penn’s core operating principles has been that communication, with an emphasis on understanding stakeholder concerns, helps ensure success for even the most complicated projects. To gain support for, and an understanding of, its projects, the firm is accustomed to performing community outreach, engaging stakeholders, inviting political participation and accurately presenting its projects to all audiences.
Penn is a member of numerous organizations, including: the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA), the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association and the Clean Air Council.
